It’s Kind of a Hygge Deal

We have nothing to lose and a world to see.

Today, I embark on the grand adventure of trying to remember my 10th address in 4 years. Wish me luck.

Just kidding (kind of). As per usual, I packed entirely too late in the game and finally zipped up my suitcase less than 12 hours before I had to leave the United States for a year. Luckily I put Saint Nick to shame by making approximately 20 lists and checking each of them at least 100 times, guaranteeing I couldn’t forget anything if I tried. My entire life fits in a suitcase, a duffel, and a backpack.

I apologize if this post is a bit hard to follow, I’m updating this from Madrid after getting almost one hour of sleep on the flight out because apparently my legs are as restless as my mind. Oh well, you made it this far, may as well stick it out.

Going into this year, I’ve decided to make a list of my goals (and post them on here so I have some semblance of accountability). Here they are:

  1. Master conversational Danish.
  2. Become comfortable with being (and traveling) alone.
  3. Learn how to not suck at art.
  4. Engage with locals.
  5. Hone my design abilities through the application of Danish design principles.

There you have it! I will update once I make it to Copenhagen in one piece.

  1. O, HELLO from North Carolina.
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am for you. I LOVE the goals.
Traveling alone can be SO DAUNTING, but also very, very rewarding.
I traveled for 3 weeks in Australia and New Zealand several years ago. Watch out for getting tired of being the only one you can depend on (how to get there, where to eat, etc.) I suggest making friends at school who can help guide you, take care of the details. They will help with the ‘Conversational Danish’ goal, too.
Look forward to all your updates.
